"Organizer" is my Middle Name
My family and friends know that I'm the planner and organizer amongst them all. I see the whole picture and probably use post-it-notes and planner lists to keep things running smoothly.
Everyone knows how to do something or sell something. Whether it's playing the piano, gardening, working with crafts, calligraphy, art, organizing events...we've all acquired certain skills in our lives, and it might be the path to a new career opportunity. It may be time to move it from being a "hobby" to a "real business."
The great thing about creative types is how I am inspired by the simplest of thoughts---thoughts that set things into motion. I like creating magic, and have probably been the one who has planned most of the special occasions at work or for family and friends. Attention to detail comes through when the pieces all come together.
It is a lot of fun doing something that I truly like and it brings more joy into your life when I have something positive to look forward to.
"If I can dream it, I can make it happen"
A project of this nature requires hard work and commitment on my part, so I need to study your options and make a business plan. It may be easy to organize a major event, yet sometimes, it’s the "technical" aspects of a business that blocks us into a corner!
Going into business for it takes effort and is by no means a way to make money the easy way--no such thing. Yet, many with natural talents and abilities are working from home or starting a small business. I am offering a business plan!
Vision & Post-it-Notes
Perhaps I have always had a desire to become a home-based business operator/entrepreneur, event planner, party planner and/or wedding coordinator. Lots of titles there! It is one thing to plan events and another thing to be an event planner entrepreneur! I must operate like a business to stay in business. Having the tools and knowledge to get started is important.
...the main goal is to run it more like a family business and less like a hobby
I might want to start off small if I am currently working full-time. Take a "test run", so to speak, on a part-time basis. I have to decide what types of events to coordinate for your clients. Do I limit it to only weddings? Will I branch out to all-occasion events?
Every town has a need and the trick is to find what is needed and be the best. Find my place in this growing market. The idea is to find the niche in the market for your area that has a gap.
If children's birthday parties are in need of someone to offer this as a service, then that might work best. Perhaps I desire to be the coordinator for Open House Celebrations, Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies for new businesses or even Note Burning Ceremonies when the debt is being paid off. I can work with the visitor's bureau in your area and make contact with businesses and non-profit organizations.
Operating a business, boutique or retail setting to coordinate events, parties, weddings and other celebrations is fun to "us planners." If I am choosing Internet sales to supplement my services and business prospects (and I do), I choose products that enhance my business. My favorite part is to find out how much happiness and excitment I made happen while I was sleeping; my Internet store can work for me as well once I have it set up and on the search engines. So where's the market?
Approximately 5 million brides and grooms get married every year in the U.S. The wedding industry is a 50 billion dollar a year industry. In Canada, the estimated average wedding cost: $22,460. This is only one market area and does not account for fees paid for company parties, board of director retreats, retirement parties and family celebrations of all types.
Event planning comes in all forms...I've talked with lots of people and everyone has different thoughts. Some go straight into wedding planning only, while others do all-occasion events. A lady in Arizona whose daughter is lending a hand at teas, showers and dinner type of events started their business. They bought an old home and remolded it and were going to add some retail products. Of course, not everyone can do this, but the retail aspect is good. Whatever your vision is, promote it forward and start developing your business reputation.
My Strategy with a Slogan....
Does my product or service satisfy an unfilled need in the area market? Could my community do well with the services or products I plan to offer? As I work through the process of developing a "working plan," I become more knowledgeable in how to operate my business.
My strategy: a designed working plan. This business plan makes me "think strategy." I like to plan and organize social events, yet the first thing to organize is my business operations. Sound unexciting? Well, perhaps----yet the business plan conveys my goals and demonstrates how I will always be running my business in order to operate it on a daily basis FOR YOU!
My Objectives: Weddings? .....other Event Types? Retail Sales? Company Social Planner Caterer? Specialized Consultant & Coordinator for At-Home Weddings? Start a partnership with a friend or family member or go solo Home-based? Small Boutique or Store Front?
